Australian Money – Coins
When exploring Australian Money and what our coins are, this pack will help to structure learning for understanding.
Tasks include
– ‘I can’ statement to display
– Charts for – What do we know about coins, want to know and what is our new learning
– When you set up a class shop either make your own price tags or use the ones provided. Remember, at this level it is about recognising the correct coin, not necessarily about the correct change or actual price of objects (colour and b/w version provided)
– Coin rubbings and what they tell us
– Order coins by amount, a cut and paste task
– Name that coin. Use the spinner and name the coin that it lands on. Play with a partner and keep a tally of correct names – first to ten is the winner. Use the tally sheets provided or record on small whiteboards
– Coin profile – organise grade into six groups – one for each coin. Have ‘experts’ complete profiles to share with the grade
– Use play money and have groups sort, look at different coins, sides of coins, pictures, icons, words, numbers
– Cards to match coin to amount and to the word
– Venn Diagram for comparing coins between our currency and another currency
– Assessment recording sheets – two versions
