Father’s Day in the Primary Classroom
Father’s Day is a special time of year when we celebrate dads and all the amazing things they do. In the classroom, it’s a wonderful opportunity to help students think about the important people in their lives—whether that’s a dad, stepdad, grandpa, uncle, or any special grown-up who cares for them.
Why We Celebrate Father’s Day
Dads and father figures play a big role in a child’s life. They teach, guide, support, and love in numerous ways. Celebrating Father’s Day at school gives students a chance to say thank you and to show appreciation through simple, meaningful activities.

Classroom Ideas for a Thoughtful Father’s Day
There are lots of creative ways for students to celebrate Father’s Day at school. Here are some ideas that are easy to do and make a big impact:
- Make a handmade card: Students can decorate cards with drawings, kind messages, and fun facts about their dad or a special grown-up.
- Write a “Why I love my Dad” poem: Acrostic poems or short sentences help children reflect on what makes their dad unique.
- Draw a portrait: Kids love drawing, and a framed picture of “My Dad” (or special person) is always a winner!
- Create a “coupon book”: Students can make small vouchers like “One free hug” or “Help with the dishes” as a sweet, personalised gift.
Including Everyone
We know that every family is different. It’s important to let students choose who they want to celebrate—whether it’s a dad, grandparent, foster carer, or other important adult. Using inclusive language like “someone special” ensures every child feels seen and valued.

Making It Meaningful
The best Father’s Day activities are the ones that come from the heart. It’s not about fancy gifts—it’s about helping children express love and appreciation. Whether it’s a carefully written sentence or a colourful card, these small moments mean the world to families.
