Stellaluna A Book Study

Stellaluna is a story about a young bat that finally makes its way back home after trying to fit in with a bird family. These tasks will explore the text and inspire your students to write. Read along to see how Stellaluna learns from her experiences and finds her family.

Stellaluna A Book Study includes –
  • Word Wall Cards – Use these words as a display or in a learning centre and sort them into categories, or to find out meanings to put them into sentences or stories, or use them in writing, or put them into alphabetical order
  • KWHL – Copy each page and display them as posters for the grade to list the things you – what we know about Stellaluna – Want to know about Stellaluna – How will we find this out – Our New Learning about Stellaluna
  • Word Splashes – Around each picture record words to describe the image. Discuss adjectives, verbs and nouns, Provide support for individuals or let them work in groups.
  • Interactive Pages – On the front of the page draw an illustration. Under each of the flaps – write a description for the beginning, middle and end of the story. Discuss and add the personality traits of Stellaluna as you see her in the story.

  • Word Work – Use these class lessons or an individual focus for word work tasks. Pages for – at, ir, ight
