Our students love a great theme and this Halloween Reading and Writing Activities pack encourages all students to read and write about Halloween while learning about many aspects of English.

WORD WALL

There is a full-colour copy and a ‘save my ink’ version. As you brainstorm words add them to this list. They can be used for writing tasks and expanding vocabulary over the time of this work.

PRINT AND GO SECTION

A-Z Key – Copy one for each child or a larger copy for one between 2. Write as many words as you can that are about Halloween. Add them to the class Word Wall.

Book Report – Your job is to convince someone else to read your favourite Halloween book. Fill out the book report and share it with the grade.

Acrostic Poem – Write a word or sentence for each letter of HALLOWEEN and TRICK or TREAT

Draw and label your outfit – Record what it is made of, and discuss the parts of it. Use lined paper to write a prediction about what will happen when you wear your outfit.

Spooky house words – Draw a spooky house and then put descriptive words around it.

List candy you like – With a partner list the candy you love, they love and you both love. In the middle is what you both love to eat.

Design a witch outfit – Design a witch’s outfit and write a description.

Superstition list – Explore books and use the internet to list why we are superstitious.

Make up a potion – what would you put in it and what would it do?

You can match the letters and play snap or use them for memory cards.

STORY STARTERS

Copy on colour and laminate. Place in a cup/tin each with the labels attached, and choose one of each colour to write a narrative.
